Thyroid cancer has the fastest rising
incidence among cancers in the U.S.,
with new cases increasing at a rate of
approximately 4% annualy.
Occuring three times more often in
women than in men, thyroid cancer
ranks in the top ten cancers
diagnosed in women.


Over 30,000 new cases of thyroid cancer
are expected to be diagnosed in the U.S.
in 2006.
Over 350,000 people in the U.S. are
living with a diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

Greater Awareness May Lead to Earlier Diagnoses

58% of thyroid cancers are diagnosed while the cancer is still confined to the primary site (localized stage).
35% are diagnosed after the cancer has spread to the regional lymph nodes or directly beyond the primary site.
5% are diagnosed after the cancer has metastasized to distant organs.
A delay in primary treatment increases the probability of thyroid cancer death 2.4 fold.

EARLY IDENTIFICATION AND TREATMENT OF THYROID CANCER IMPROVES LONG TERM SURVIVAL
